Carpenter Podiums in Canadian Motocross

June 29th, 2009

The fourth round of the 2009 Monster Energy Motocross Nationals visited a very wet Morden, Manitoba this weekend.  Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki’s Paul Carpenter continued to battle for the championship with a first moto win and second overall for the day.  Bobby Kiniry continues his consistency with a fourth overall and Jack Carpenter rode away with twelfth overall despite a first moto DNF.

The start of the first MX1 Pro moto saw all three Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki riders towards the front of the field.  Paul quickly moved into second but he could not close the distance on the leader.  It looked like Paul would have to settle for the runner up spot until the leader made a mistake.  This gave Paul a chance to close the gap to the leader’s back wheel and make a pass for the lead.  Paul gained new life from the pass and eventually won the moto by six seconds.  Kiniry had an uneventful race to finish in fourth position and Jack had bike problems that forced him to the pits early.

Jack Carpenter secured a fifth place start in the second moto while Paul and Kiniry saw themselves buried deep in the pack.  Eventually, Paul and Kiniry moved into a position where Jack was fourth, Paul was fifth and Kiniry was sixth.  Once Paul moved into third he was on a mission to close the fifteen second gap to the rider in second place.  In the end, he barely missed second place as the checkered flag cut his charge short and he settled for third.  Kiniry finished with a fourth and Jack followed in sixth.

For the overall series, Paul still remains in 3rd, Bobby fourth and Jack not far behind in 9th position.

The Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to Gopher Dunes in Courtland, Ontario on July 18-19, 2009 for round five of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.

Spy’s Danny Harf takes 1st at BRO Stock 2009

June 26th, 2009

bro-podium
The world’s best in wake congregated at Lake Powell this past weekend for Liquid Force’s annual BROstock festival. Fueled by Monster Energy, 2009’s BROstock proved to be bigger and better then expected once again! Twenty four of the best riders including Shawn Watson, Shane Bonifay, Rusty Malinoski, Phillip Soven, and Danny Harf came for the contest, but stayed for the fun and festivities.

The weekend kicked off Friday with a progressive wakeskate demo that featured the likes of Aaron Reed, Danny Hampson, and Brian Grubb, among others. The crew took it to the backcountry, where they sessioned over rocks and natural terrain. Earlier in the day, the pro wakeboarders got a chance to get accustomed to the monsterous wake of the LF BROstock edition Supra 24’, as they had a 2 hour practice session. The night concluded with premiers of both Collin Harrington’s Box of Fun and Billabong’s Out of the Pond to a boisterous crowd watching on the 36’ screen and sound system set up in the desert!

Saturday kicked off early with the LF DJ throwing down the beats for round one of the double-up contest. Round 1 started with 24 riders riding in heats that would eventually cut the field down to 16. From round one, the format switched to head-to-head as the 16 remaining riders would battle it out to make it into the round of 8. Once in the round of 8, all riders would be getting paid. Needless to say, the competition was definitely heating up. With the Supra 24’ BROstock edition the official towboat of BROstock, all competitors were guaranteed a consistently giant wake and that lead to some serious boosting!

After a semifinals round that eliminated Ben Greenwood, Harley Clifford, Jeff Weatherall, and Shane Bonifay, the final 4 consisted of Danny Harf, Chris O’Shea, as well as Liquid Force’s own Bob Soven and James Balzer, the spoilers of the event. Balzer, know for his wakeskating prowess, was a last minute fill in for the event as another rider backed out due to injury. He continued to impress round after round and was a definite fan favorite. Bob, the 17 year old phenom was impressive all day as he was able to take down some of the industry’s best, including Rusty Malinoski and his older brother Phillip. In the finals, Balzer stomped a clean backside 540 while Bob threw down a huge toeside 900 to claim the 3rd and 2nd spots on the podium respectively. In the end, however it was Monster Energy team rider, Danny Harf who dropped a wrapped nose grab backside 720 to claim the top spot. He had consistently been landing what was considered one of the most stylish and progressive tricks all day and was rewarded heavily for it. In the process, Danny walked away $12,500 richer and put his name in the history books of BROstock, a contest that is widely becoming known for producing some of the most progressive contest riding ever!

Be sure to tune in to FUEL TV August 25th at 8:30pm to watch the BROstock show and relive all of the action!

Spy Optic’s Tucker Hibbert Returns To MX Action This Weekend In Canada!

June 26th, 2009

Spy’s legendary two-sport athlete ramps up the MX portion of his competition year with a run at the MX1 class in Morden, Manitoba

Spy Optic privateer motocross race Tucker Hibbert is on his way up to Morden, Manitoba’s (Canada) Shadow Valley Raceway for round four of the 2009 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian MX Nationals -  his first pro MX race of the season.

Hibbert, who has done well racing in Canada in the past, will use the Morden round as a tune-up of sorts as he plans on contesting five of the next seven Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals here in the States through September.

“My goals this summer are to win this weekend in Canada and to be in the top ten in the United States,” he says. “I’m trying to keep my schedule light so I don’t get strung out. I’m racing as a privateer again so, by spacing out my races, I think I can perform better. Bottom line: If I can learn something new and have fun doing it, it will be a successful summer.”

The three-time defending Winter X Snocross champion, Hibbert will run his buddy and riding partner Kevin Windham’s signature series Spy Magneto goggles up in Canada.

For more information on Spy Optic’s Tucker Hibbert, including his new blog, link to his website at: www.tucker-hibbert.com

Also, joining Hibbert in what should give Spy Optic the majority of top ten riders in the MX1 class’ goggle color count will be Paul Carpenter, Bob Kiniry and Jack Carpenter – Spy’s representatives on the Canadian MX National tour with the Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki team. And here in the States Spy Optic’s Nick Wey (Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing) returns to action this weekend in U.S. motocross with the running of the Lakewood (Colo.) MX National on Saturday (June 27).
