5TH ANNUAL REEF SWEETWATER PRO AM SURF CONTEST WRAP UP

July 16, 2009 by val

The 5th Annual Reef Sweetwater Pro Am Surf contest was jam packed the entire weekend July 10-12th at Wrightsville Beach, NC. It is one of the largest east coast surf competitions that attracts thousands to the beach each year. Spy’s local Ben Bourgeois and Mike Losness ended up with a commendable semi-final finish.

With 90 degree weather and almost 100% humidity the sand and sun was plenty hot. By the end of the weekend stenciled Spy tattoos in florescent pink, orange and yellow could be seen on tanned bodies all over the beach. Beach goers took photos with Spy’s athletes on the three “fun” backdrops. You could take a pirate and mermaid photo with Ben Bourgeois, be a penguin friend of Nick Rupp and Alana Blanchard or join Mike Losness with his ‘muscle beach’ theme. Spy tattoos, prize pack giveaways and hundreds of free hot dogs were in full effect…

Friday night’s after party at Red Dog’s had a huge turnout. The groms went wild for the early evening world premiere showing of “Spectacular Adventures” and the 21+ up showing in the later of the evening and after party went well into the wee hours of the morning. Saturday night’s Reef/Spy fashion show attracted plenty of hooting and hollering showcasing Reef’s latest swimwear and Spy sunglasses. Each night Ben Bourgeois picked raffle winners on Red Dog’s stage and ended up drawing two lucky ladies to win his two team surfboards. They were amped!

After going through a few tubes of sunscreen just in a weekend…Spy looks forward to next year’s Reef Sweetwater Pro Am surf contest!

Hey Spygirls! Thank you for all you did to make the Reef Sweetwater Pro Am so much fun for all. Are you sure that y’all aren’t from NC? Gracious hospitality from SPY! hotdogs, sunglasses, tattoos, costuming, sunscreening-and smiling all the way! My little groms first contest-Ren and Carson,(your pic 2 and “penguin”) had a blast-just couldn’t get enough of the Spy tent! Will be sure to show our gratitude with our next purchase of sunglasses. Looking forward to seeing you all next summer-

  2. While at one time tattoos were more popular with men, in recent years tattoos have becoming increasingly popular with ladies as well.
