Wey goes 8th/9th to earn his second-straight top ten 450 class finish, Paul Carpenter’s 4th @ Canadian MX Nats in Courtland, Ontario, Canada
Spy Optic’s Nick Wey (Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing) was on it again in the 450 class, this time rallying his YZ450F to an 8th place finish – featuring two top ten moto finishes (8th/9th) – at round seven of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals tour in Millville, Minn.
Coming to within a point of Justin Brayton for a top ten spot in the overall 450 class season standings, 127 to 126, Wey looked to be at home at Spring Creek MX Park, site of his only Outdoor MX National win in ’98.
“Always enjoy coming back to Millville,” said Wey. “I’ve had some good runs at this track over the years.”
South of Wey and Millville, but across the border in Canada, the Spy Optic-backed Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki team was blasting way at Gopher Dunes in Courtland, Ontario. Winning the second MX1 class moto and finishing 4th overall was Paul Carpenter, followed by teammate Bob Kiniry in 8th place. Also, Heidi Cooke won the women’s class, sweeping both motos to remain undefeated on the season.
Next up for Spy Optic’s motocross racers contesting the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals is round eight of the series at Washougal MX Park in Washougal, Wash., while the Monster/Cernic’s/Kawasaki team will be in Quebec for the MX Ste-Thecle round of the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian MX Nationals (July 25-26).
