The Pala Amateur Championship at Pala Raceway on September 2nd, 3rd and 4th will be held on the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Pala National Track. This will be the same layout besides a couple of toned down jumps that the AMA Pros will be racing on and its your opportunity to say you raced where Ryan Dungey, Chad Reed, Ryan Villopoto, Dean Wilson, Tyla Rattray and Blake Baggett decide their championship battles just one week later.
The SPY amateur MX team recently spent the week at the 30th annual Red Bull Loretta Lynn’s MX National in Hurricane Mills, TN. This is the biggest amateur race in the world with the highest talent in amateur motocross. SPY Optic won two championships throughout the week with Chris Plouffe taking the open pro sport title and Blake Green winning the 12-14 85cc stock title!! Mitchell Falk won a moto in his first trip to the ranch in the 9-11 65cc class and Derek Drake finished up 4th and 5th overall in the 9-11 65cc stock and modified classes. KTM Orange Brigade team manager Mike Sleeter finished up 3rd overall in the 25+ pro class.
Blake Green put it together in one of the most stacked classes, the 12-14 85cc stock class. He finished 3-1-5 for the overall championship! Here is Blake tasting some sweet victory champagne on the podium…
Tony Cairoli finished second overall at Loket with a 1st place finish in the first moto and a 4th place finish in the second moto.
“The first race was good. I got the holeshot and made some good laps. I had very good speed and I could pull away and make a good gap,” says Cairoli. “In the second I got a good jump out of the gate but I went a bit too wide in the first corner and one of the inside riders clipped my wheel. I didn’t want to crash so quite a few riders got past me and I was back at around 10 or 11. Then another rider made a mistake going over one of the jumps and he crashed in front of me when I was on the jump and I was again back in 7 or 8th place. It was difficult to pass but at the end of the race I managed to get up to Max who was riding well in third and passed him. By then it was too late to go for the win.”
The weather out at Loretta Lynn’s mx national right now is blistering hot with temperatures in the 100’s and the muggy humidity has everyone sweating like they just got done sitting in the sauna for 3 hours… The kids are all chasing their dreams of being the next big thing in motocross and pushing the limits to take the victory in 20 minute plus two lap motos.
The SPY set up with KTM and the Orange Brigade…
Chris Plouffe takes the holeshot and moto win in the open pro sport class!
