SPY’s MC to be Inducted into Motorsports Hall of Fame

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Carlsbad, CA—Tuesday, August 24th, 2010—The SPY family is pleased to congratulate and celebrate SPY’s legendary MC “King of Supercross,” seven-time AMA Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath as he will be inducted into The Twenty Second Annual Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. MC will accept this honor at The Fillmore in Detroit, Michigan, on Wednesday evening, August 25th 2010.

Jeremy has been an ambassador and a huge part of the SPY brand since 1995 and continues to push SPY to the next level. His vibrant energy, charisma and talent are unmatched and we’re amped to go full throttle for 2011 by celebrating MC’s 11th SPY signature moto goggle.

With the September release of the  “Throwback MC11” in the Klutch model, SPY is thrilled to have its favorite son honored in the Motorsports Hall of Fame. Just in time for the last few days of summer SPY will be sponsoring the 48th annual East Coast Surfing Championships from August 25th-29th in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Hundreds of amateur and pro surfers, including SPY’s own Ben Bourgeois, Cody Thompson, Tyler Newton, and Nick Rupp, will go head to head for East Coast surfing titles with purses totaling $30,000.

Back for another year, the SPY crew will be out in full force! Come and kick it at the SPY booth in the vendor village for some beach games, prize giveaways, and your chance to win an exclusive pair of SPY shades before they are out in stores. It will be a hot one but with all the shenanigans we have in store you won’t even notice the heat!

SPY Announces Strategic Partnership with Ken Block and 43 Racing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Carlsbad, California – July 30, 2010 –SPY joins the Block party! Consummating a relationship that has over 10 years of history, SPY has joined an elite stable of brands to support and promote Ken Block and the Monster World Rally Team.

Block began his career in rally with a bang in 2005, being named the Rally America Rookie of the Year. He continued racing in the national series with much success and a long list of podium finishes. Then in 2010, Block moved on to the big leagues, racing all over the globe in the World Rally Championship with the newly formed Monster World Rally Team. This was history in the making, since Block is the first American to ever campaign a WRC program.

The Spyrates once again ventured away from the hallowed safe harbors of San Diego for a little mischief and mayhem behind the Orange Curtain (aka THE OC). We headed straight for the heart of Surf City, Main St. Huntington Beach for a night of plunder and wonder over at the Black Bull Chop House. After a brief product clinic on SPY eyewear and some cocktails, it was time to rekindle a year old rivalry and put the bull between some thighs! Pier Bull Round 2 was on!

This year’s turnout proved to be one for the ages, as all hands on deck were repping hard flying the flag for their local store and taking to the ring to battle for the right to raise the horns! (Bull Horn Trophy that is!) With drinks being shuttled in by the Spyrate wenches, there was not a thirsty mouth in the house as the competition escalated between the retail juggernauts. After some inspired riding by both Jacks and HSS employees, the final came down to a heated battle between HSS Pierside, and Jacks Dana Point location. The final literally came down to a second with Jacks DP pulling out the victory! Congrats to Jacks Dana Point! You have a target on your back for next year!

After a brief awards ceremony we had a first time three-way between a few of the lovely ladies of HSS! They for sure get the spirit award, as most of the meat in the house was no longer soft. (Outside the kitchen of course). Black Bull Chophouse serves both a mean steak and a stiff Cubra Libre, and I suggest you stop by and take a shot at the bull. Special thanks to Lawrence at Black Bull for a amazing evening! And Jacks and HSS for always bringing the enthusiasm.

Spy Welcomes Tommy Searle to the Moto Team

Tommy is a 20-year-old British motocross racer who will be competing his first full year in the US. After a pair of runner-up seasons at the MX2 World Championships, Tommy Searle made his move to the US for 2009. After 12 rounds of the outdoor season, a trio of podium positions and some highs and lows, he finished sixth overall.

Tommy has been riding Supercross for the past couple months getting ready for his first season.

“I am having a lot of fun with Supercross and feel that I can be a top contender” Says Spy’s Tommy Searle.

Tommy will be racing in the Lites class for the factory FMF/KTM Factory Racing team in the West coast Supercross and Outdoor Motocross series.

The 2010 Supercross season kicks off on January 9th, 2010 in Anaheim, CA.
