The Spyrate gang once again ventured from the familiar and safe waters of San Diego and headed north to Hollywood for a Dr’s appointment. We were headed for a check up with Dr Dog who was slated to rock the Henry Fonda Theater on this fate filled Tuesday night.
As we rolled into LA there was the usual traffic jam and white knuckled lane changers scrounging for every inch of the 5 freeway they could grab. The ipod was set to shuffle and we would not be bothered as we eventually made it to LA LA land in good spirits.
Upon our arrival the line was down the block for this sold out show with a variety of ticket seekers and even questionable homeless men hitting us up every 5 seconds for extra tickets. Sean, the sound guy for Dr Dog, eventually came out greeted us with our passes to party and rescued us Baywatch style from the anxious line of concert goers.
We settled in with a couple $7 dollar beers and $11 dollar Vodka Soda (well) just as Deertick opened up with some amazing energy and rocking cover tunes. After the 30+ minute set the curtain dropped and the anticipation began.
Fresh off a successful stint at Austin Texas SXSW Music Festival as well as a TV spot on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Dr. Dog took the stage at 11pm ready to mind blow the crowd with new music from their newest album “Shame Shame.”

SPY+ Stratos II
The curtain raised and the crowd came to life! All Arms were raised and swaying to the energetic “Stranger.” Once again the band was off and rocking complete with shades from none other than SPY Optic!

The band rocked for over 1.5 hours and left the house still wanting more. The cd is amazing but live is the way Dr Dog was meant to be heard (in my opinion).

It was 1am and the venue was clearing out. The after party was a brief affair as the band had Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform the next day.
The boys of Dr Dog were definitely stoked on the new styles from SPY since 4 of the 5 members were representing our shades on Jimmy Kimmel the following night.

The streets were wet when we left and headed south on the 5 back to San Diego but no rain could take away from the amazing show we had the privilege to witness that night. Special thanks to Sean with Dr Dog for the all access passes and Jesse Fulton for the photos!!
