$60,000 Raised Lawn Bowling for Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

September 7th, 2011

With it’s third year now complete, this unique fundraiser started by the not-for-profit Vancouver Leisure Society is growing in both popularity and funds raised.  It’s also given the age old sport of lawn bowling a new youthful spin.  The event was founded by Duncan Gillespie along with brothers Andrew and Graham Dalik.  This summer alone they sold out the 160+ person event in under 2 minutes and raised $60,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, bringing their three year total to over $100,000. Participants enter in teams of four. Creative team names and uniforms are a must.  The annual event spans four Thursday nights throughout the summer  and is equally about making new friends and having fun as it is about raising money.  The series is hosted in honor of Eva Markvoort, a friend of the founders who passed away from Cystic Fibrosis in 2010 at the age of 25.  Spy has been a sponsor since the very first year, awarding sunglasses to a number of participants, including the annual people’s choice “Sunniest Disposition” award — presented to the most fun team to play against.

Spy Sponsors Lawn Bowling Fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis

June 18th, 2010

July is a leisurely month and nothing says leisure like a little lawn bowling.  Spy is once again a proud sponsor of the inaugural Vancouver Leisure Life Tour event, a lawn bowling tournament raising money for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The 4-week tour is held on four consecutive Thursday nights, at the Stanley Park Lawn Bowling Club in Vancouver, BC.

The decision to support Cystic Fibrosis was inspired by Eva Markvoort, a friend of the organizers who has CF. Furthermore, CF is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians.  At last years event, 150+ participants raised over $11,000 for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

For 2010, Spy sunglasses will once again be awarded to team with the Sunniest Disposition throughout the entire event. Stay tuned for details of each stop in the series.   Click here to check out some of the latest press in Georgia Straight.
