SPY is proud have two of our boys featured in the Curt Morgan and Travis Rice’s newest cinema experience, The Art of Flight, featuring Travis Rice and a list of the best snowboarders in the world traveling to the ends of the earth and pushing the boundaries of snowboarding as we know them. Eero Niemela and DCP both joined the Brain Farm crew last winter in these adventures and walked away with their foot print in what will become a movie that changed the perspective of snow cinematography.

This past weekend Mt. High gave everyone the winter itch with their annual “Season Pass Party”. The weather was as far from winter as I think you can get, 90 degree temperatures and dry with a back drop of just gigantic cumulonimbus clouds waiting to strike down with the thunder of gods and the lightening from heaven. We lucked out with the clouds just staying where they were and not coming over to us.
Ryan is a BOWSE
We made our entrance in good Spy fashion, rolling our Land Yacht, aka RV, right into the center of the tent city, dropping that double tent style (10 x 20 feet of fun for those who don’t know) and getting the crowd riled up. After the quick set up, we let the games begin with the prize wheel and our favorite the Dookie Dunk Tunk. The Dookie Dunk Tunk is by the far one of the best/grossest things you could ever do for a chance to win the best sunglasses and goggles on the market. Stick your head in a toilet that has water, mountain dew and baby ruth barsand pull out three baby ruth bars in twenty seconds. Easy right? Negative! Many have tried, and few have walked away with a chocolate grin and new eye protection.

Throughout the day there were raffles, product tosses, live music, chair lift rides up the mountain, kisses from Smelly and of course a bikini contest. The winner of the bikini contest won a season pass, as well as a huge gift bag filled with all the goodies one would need to shred the snowy slopes. So you can only imagine the line up of woman that where ready to walk down the picnic table cat walk and became everything they dreamed of as a child, Ms. Mt High… or something like that

Reigning U.S. Cycling Champ Signs Multi-Year Contract with So Cal Eyewear Brand
CARLSBAD, Calif.—SPY Optic™ today announced a multi-year sponsorship deal with Team RadioShack pro cyclist and current U.S. Professional Road Race Champion Matthew Busche. Busche, 26, will inaugurate his relationship with the So. Calif.-based eyewear brand—known for its function- and fashion-forward frames and lens technology—at the Vuelta a Espana, Aug. 20 through Sept. 11.
“Matthew joining SPY underscores our commitment to the SPY Performance Eyewear program we’ve just launched and to the Company’s active interest in supporting cycling and cyclists,” says SPY Optic President Michael Marckx. “Matthew is killing it already and it’s just the beginning of his career, he’s cool, and he really is the best ambassador on the road for the technical side of our sunglasses business. We’re looking forward to having a lot of fun working with him as he turns the screws on the world’s best for a very long time to come.”
Busche is the first professional road cyclist to sign with SPY. He joins a roster that includes current UCI Mountain Bike World Champion Sam Hill, 17-year-old UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup rider Troy Brosnan, and MTB freestyle/freeride sensation Mike Montgomery.
“I am really excited to work with SPY: There are a lot of eyewear companies out there, but SPY definitely stands apart from the bunch,” says Busche. “They make top-of-the-line racing-performance eyewear that looks cool, works great and is comfortable. I really like that the Company is run by good people that are really into cycling. Plus, their everyday glasses are pretty sweet and I’m looking forward to rocking that when I’m off the bike.”
Marckx adds the following: “Matthew is a critical addition to our team and to our whole Performance program—the marquee athlete we’ve been looking for to round-off what we’re doing in mountain biking and with the huge push we’re committed to with local and regional road teams, cyclocross events and teams, and with independent bike shops. We’re an action sports brand, but we’re also a brand born in San Diego, a hotbed of cycling across every discipline, and we dig that part of our DNA.”
